World Cup Watch

“We regretted the impact it had. But we were in such a state that sometimes, for love, you can do clumsy gestures.”

Thierry Henri reflects on the decision of the French players to go on a training strike.

What a marvelous phrase this is – Sometimes, for love, you can do clumsy gestures – striking a note with anyone who has ever been speared by the arrows of Eros and transforming a petulant decision driven by le grande egos of highly overpaid sportsmen into one of noble pathos made only for the love of France.

Nice work.
